I have been known for making funny faces. Whether it’s in pictures, in person, or over the infamous Snapchat, my funny face/double chin/creepy smile is a well known joke among those who know me. I can be overly dramatic with nothing more that the facial expression I put on.
While making these funny faces is something that brings me intense enjoyment, I wish I had known that it’s okay to make normal faces as well. Contrary to my grandmother’s warnings, my face never did get stuck in a contorted position from a sudden change in wind, but I do have quite a few family vacation pictures that aren’t exactly appropriate to show new friends or romantic interests.
Not exactly the picture I want to pass around at family gatherings.
I think my funny face escapades started when I wasn’t as confident with myself and my looks, and while self confidence is a whole other issue I wish I would have tackled earlier, funny faces were an outlet for actually being in a picture without being embarrassed. If I was already making a funny face, no one could claim I didn’t look good!
I’m definitely an advocate of creepily smiling at your friends from across the room…if you can get them to burst out laughing at inappropriate times, more power to you! But when you’re on vacation, even if it’s a struggle for you, try and take at least one normal picture amid the many funny faced ones.
Something a bit more appropriate for Grandma’s mantle.
