V-Day! Hooray! War is over! Yeah…wait what? It’s not that V-Day; it’s Valentine’s Day! Oh no, what am I gonna do, what am I gonna do?!
If you’re like me, and for some strange reason you always forget about Valentine’s Day, well we’re not lost entirely. Note how I say, “entirely.” Your best bet at this point (aside from kissing your favorite photo of your paramour one last time), is to sit down and have a nice little chat with your sweetie, in which you bring up how nice it’s going to be to celebrate it a day late, with a freshly cooked meal that you prepared for them.
You may ask “But Dave, how am I gonna cook her a meal? I don’t know how to do that!” Well sadly this isn’t a cooking blog, so there’s little I can do to help you in that regard, however I will say this. It’s less about the meal, and way, WAY more about the intent behind it. And let’s be honest, everyone knows how to make spaghetti (if you don’t, here’s the simple recipe: boil pasta noodles, drain the water, add tomato paste).
There are other right quick things you can do, personally one of my favorite gifts to give a paramour is a poem. Then again, I am one of those crazy creative types, and if you’re not, then you’re out of luck. And no, I’m not going to write you a poem for your lover, I gotta write one for mine!
I know what you might be thinking, a meal, poetry, time together; where’s the old standard of chocolates and flowers? Well, as I said before, to impress on Valentine’s Day is all about putting forth the effort. And let’s be honest, both you and your sweetheart deserve that effort. Love is a two-way street that we all roam. Sure, every now and then we get lost on a side street alone by ourselves, but we all make it back to the main road when the time is right and we discover that right person. Embrace each other, my friends, for love is too beautiful a thing to let slip by, and while Valentine’s Day is all about expressing that, I think we should all strive to keep the idea alive every day.
