“Peace begins with a Smile”
– Mother Teresa
Peace is always on my mind. It’s just the kind of person that I am, which is why I love this quote. While it may seem odd to some, smiling is highly beneficial to your health and happiness, and it just so happens to be infectious (but in a good way, I promise)!
Here’s a strange factoid you can use to your advantage as an icebreaker. Did you know that smiling can require up to all 53 facial muscles (depending on your type of smile)? Or that women statistically smile more than men? Or that smiling is a universal expression of happiness recognized across all regions and cultures?
A simple smile does miles more than just curl the edges of our mouths; it can boost our immune systems. I know it sounds really strange, but when you smile, your immune system functions better as your body is more relaxed. You ever wonder why that Grumpy Gus in the office is always sick? I bet you don’t see him smiling too much, probably because he’s stressed. However, if he’d just smile, he could reduce that stress via endorphins that are released as a result of the muscle movements in the face.
But what about relationships? We all need a little help with our significant others from time to time, and today’s free tip is of course about smiling. When you’re first falling for that guy or gal your smile is going to make or break your chances more often then not. Seriously, that smile is going to show him or her that A) you’re nice, B) you’re interested, C) you’re fun (not a stick-in-the-mud), and D) confident. If it’s one thing I’ve heard a million times over, it’s that everybody loves confidence.
So smile. You’re on the Smile TV website for smiling out loud! It may help you find that inner peace!
