Ten Years of Awesome
Well hurrah, I’ve survived another revolution around the sun, or in other words, gained a year. While many of my peers at the moment are dreading the oncoming High School reunion or entering their dreaded 30s, I think I’m going to enjoy this last bit of my early-mid-late twenties.
In life, we all do lots of things and are therefore constantly evolving and changing into different people. I am proud to say that in my sweet short life, I’ve been an Actor, Writer, Director, Artist, Musician, and Poet. I’ve also been a Waiter, Sales Associate, Intern, and College Graduate (I’ll give you three guesses as to which one I’m proud of). What is my point (other than to be an uncharacteristic braggart which makes me a little sick to my stomach)? Well my point is that if you look at yourself hard enough, you’ll start to see all the amazing things that you’ve accomplished.
Seriously, grab that mirror and start taking a look back at the last ten years. I know the first reaction is, “Ahhh! I’ve done nothing with my life!” but don’t trust that first reaction. You might not be able to trust the second reaction if it’s along the lines of my own, which was “No, seriously, I’ve done nothing. Waaaaaahhh!” But after a while, the veil starts to get lifted from your own eyes, and I want to help you speed up the process.
Start off small, think back to what has been happening in the last 10 years. In fact, make a brief list, and see if you can put down at least one awesome thing per year. I’ll show you myself…
2004: Formed the Artist Music Poetry Society, and as a result ended up sharing my creativity with a group every week!
2005: Performed, wrote/co-wrote, and directed/co-directed the “Voices in my Head” variety show!
2006: Published in a literary arts journal!
2007: Wrote and directed an anti-war one-act play, the first production I’ve worked with 100% positive reviews!
2008: Wrote, directed, and guest starred in my own pet project play “Driving Me Crazy”!
2009: Worked and lived on a horse ranch in Neenach, California!
2010: Became a home owner in beautiful Santa Monica!
2011: Best man at 3 weddings, and came home from Las Vegas with money in my pocket!
2012: Earned that diploma!
2013: Performed 100 live shows in front of paying audiences in just one year!
So hey, I know I’ve lived some, and that certainly raised my spirits after I scratched my head and went… what the heck happened in such-and-such year. Did these things instantly come to my mind? Well no, but they should have! I have no doubts that you are just the same in that regard. In full honesty, I couldn’t remember at all what was happening in one year for the longest time! Give it a try, and see how you can make this year the best one yet!
