Ok, so its been the New Year for a bit; how are you doing on those resolutions? If you’re like the majority of my family and friends, those resolutions are already starting to fade from memory, but never fear, we can make a Resolution Solution and make those positive changes!
Now I don’t know what your resolution for 2014 may have been, but I know a thing or two about motivation. As simple as it might be to have a “hype-man” or Army Drill Instructor pushing you to go forward, I find both of those things leave a little distaste in my mouth. After all, the majority of the New Year resolutions I’m familiar with are about improving yourself, and that’s always the best place to draw your inspiration for that perspiration.
It may seem like a strange thing to do (I have difficulty with it myself) but write yourself a list of small steps you can implement each day. Start small, with only one next step each week, but be sure to work on it at least 5 minutes a day. Each week, add on another element of that list. Keep raising that bar, but slowly over time. Rome wasn’t built in a week after all, and lets be honest, we all want to improve upon ourselves to become the peak Herculean superhuman capable of anything! Or is that just me?
Another thing that I know helps me more than just about anything is putting together a reward system. I know it sounds strange, but it is really helpful. Let’s say you have a favorite TV show or activity that you love to lose yourself in every night. Simply restructure that into a reward for accomplishing that small step of your resolution! If you don’t make that effort on working on yourself, you don’t get to enjoy that show or activity. It may be a bit childish, but it really helps discipline ourselves into our best interests, and lets be honest, it isn’t easy to be strict with ourselves.
So lets all keep working on those resolutions! Lets show the world that we are among those rare people that keep our resolutions. That’s something we can be proud of!
