The greatest adventure doesn’t start with some distant land; it starts with you. Every day can be the greatest adventure of your life; all it takes is some positivity, creativity, and a carefree spirit.
Many people don’t quite get this concept—there are even times that I don’t myself, despite it being my own concept—but every day we wake up is an adventure, even if that adventure is going to work. You have to figure out how to make it that way, and having a tiny bit of fun is the secret to my success.
Please note that your definition of success may be different from mine. My definition of success happens to be that I’m happy, healthy, sane, and more or less able to do some of the awesome stuff that I love.
It all boils down to your personal viewpoint on this world in which we find ourselves. When you shake the dreams from your head, do you jump out of bed, or lazily droop and drag, hitting the snooze button a couple thousand times? Despite a few of my teachers insisting that beginnings aren’t important, I’ve always felt that the beginning of anything sets the tone for what’s to come. It’s one of those strange truths I’ve stumbled onto in life.
If I start the day off going “Blaaarg I don’t wanna do !” then for some strange reason when I do finally get to whatever I’ve put in that blank spot, it’s something of a chore, something I don’t really enjoy, and that’s true no matter how this mad lib ends. But if you start off the day with a smile (in my case, a rather goofy smile) and a positive thought like “Today I’m gonna rock at !” you’ll have a better day.
Another great time to just shift your perspective is during those pesky commutes. Why waste energy getting angry at traffic or making various wishes and/or requests that everyone else get out of the way? Rather, try to see it as an adventure! Not every adventure need be like a Hollywood action flick after all. Instead of fast driving, you can make safe driving exciting, perhaps imagining that your car is holding the world’s most fragile diamond belonging to some foreign dignitary and you are charged with getting it through traffic as safely as possible. Heck maybe you can even reward yourself with a pat on the back or a nice coffee for a job well done.
Ok, I’ll admit that to some these ideas and the very concept of going on an adventure may seem peculiar and childish but you see, that’s my entire point. When we were kids, did we ever shy away from using our imaginations? I know I didn’t. I never felt ashamed by an overactive imagination either, and as I got older I kept using it. Like all things, imagination takes exercise, and it makes life so much more enjoyable, so embrace that inner child and imagination!
In every situation we are presented with in life there are a multitude of ways we can react. I actively choose to find ways to laugh and smile, and I strongly advise the same for anyone. After all, I choose to make this life an adventure, and I wouldn’t live any other way.
